Role Brief Description of Role Basic Qualification
Personal Support Assistant Mobility Assistant Guide To provide mobility support and / or practical assistance in educational situations / locations or the workplace. Experience of providing support or working with adults.
Library Support Assistant To collect and return books; locate, retrieve and carry books; search the library catalogues; photocopy articles; enlarge text from source materials; scan text and provide in agreed format. A level or equivalent qualification / working towards a degree or equivalent. Experience of providing support or working with adults.
Note Taker To take comprehensive notes on behalf of the client, in the format required by the client, reviewing and making notes accessible prior to handover. Good standard of education; clear and legible handwriting; accurate spelling and grammar.
Proof Reader To proof read, and indicate errors, in relation to spelling, organisation and structure, but not academic content. Degree or equivalent.
Reader To read relevant material out loud to the client; to record readings onto tape or minidisk as requested. Good standard of education. Clear reading voice.
Transcriber To transcribe material from one format into another agreed format e.g. from audio or hand written notes to printed text or disc Good standard of education; accurate spelling and grammar; accurate IT skills.
Study Buddy Support Key Worker To act as a motivator, assisting student adjust to college life, reducing anxiety levels, encouraging meeting of deadlines, encouraging attendance. Good standard of education. Mature attitude. Understanding of university life / requirements.
Library Research Assistant To collect and return books; locate, retrieve and carry books; search the library catalogues; photocopy articles; enlarge text from source materials; scan text and provide in agreed format; search and select relevant information from an agreed subject matter from a variety of sources (books, journals, electronic) presenting to client in the requested format. Degree or equivalent. Knowledge and experience of academic libraries Knowledge of subject matter Experience of providing support or working with adults.
Specialist Disability Support Worker To provide support where required in relation to the client's condition or impairment (e.g. specialist mobility trainer, Braille specialist). Degree or equivalent. Relevant specialist qualification (e.g. mobility trainer, Braille specialist, mental health specialist).
Learning Support Tutor Support and Guidance Mentor Specialist Support Tutor To provide one-to-one support where additional input is required in relation to the impact of the client's condition or impairment on academic progress or work related accomplishment. To act as a mentor by assisting the development of organisational skills, agreeing work targets and focusing on academic or work related progress. Degree or equivalent. Relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. counselling skills certificate).
Dyslexia Support Tutor To provide individual study skills support to dyslexic clients. Degree or equivalent. Full Teaching Certificate or equivalent. Certificate in Teaching People with Specific Learning Difficulties.
Study Support Tutor To provide one-to-one tuition where additional input is required because the client's condition or impairment impacts on the accessing of information. Degree or equivalent. Full Teaching Certificate or equivalent. Relevant postgraduate qualification.
Specialist Technology Trainer To provide technology training in the use of enabling technology, hardware and software, to clients, disabled or dyslexic people. Degree or equivalent. Relevant specialist qualification (e.g. software trainer).
