Specialist Mentor (Autism Spectrum Condition)

£28.00 per hour

Qualified Specialist Mentors are required nationwide to provide one-to-one support to students with an autism spectrum condition studying in higher education.

The purpose of the role is to work with students assisting them to recognise barriers to learning and provide strategies to develop their skills in the management of the impact of the condition on their academic experience. This includes strategies to manage anxiety in stressful situations, to develop concentration skills, time management skills, to prioritise workloads and create schedules of work-life balance.

Applicants must have:
A degree (any subject) and;
Six National Autistic Society (NAS) online training modules:

  • Understanding autism
  • Autism and communication
  • Autism and sensory experience
  • Autism, stress and anxiety
  • Autism: supporting families
  • Autism and Girls


A relevant qualification. One of the following;
  • A degree in Autism
  • A Post Graduate Certificate (PGC) in Autism/Asperger’s/Critical Disability focusing on autism
  • An MA/MEd/PhD in Education (Autism/Special Educational Needs and Disability/Critical Disability Studies focussing on autism)
